SIR JOHN GILBERT RA. PRWS. 1817- 1897 Sir J Gilbert was a leading painter and watercolourist of historical genere. He Illustrated over 150 books. After 1851 he painted exclusively in watercolours. Knighted in 1872, he also exhibited at the B.I and S.S. Started painting after giving up his career as a estate agent.
